About the Course

This is the fifth course in the Google Data Analytics Certificate. In this course, you’ll explore what it means to actually analyze your data. You’ll take what you’ve learned up to this point and apply it to make sense of the data you’ve collected. You’ll learn how to organize and format your data using spreadsheets and SQL to help you look at and think about your data in different ways. You’ll also find out how to perform complex calculations with your data to address business objectives. You’ll learn how to use formulas, functions, and SQL queries as you conduct your analysis. Current Google data analysts will continue to instruct and provide you with hands-on ways to accomplish common data analyst tasks with the best tools and resources. Learners who complete this certificate program will be equipped to apply for introductory-level jobs as data analysts. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, learners will: - Learn how to organize data for analysis. - Understand the processes for formatting and adjusting data. - Explore how to aggregate data in spreadsheets and by using SQL. - Use formulas and functions in spreadsheets to make data calculations. - Learn how to complete calculations using SQL queries....

Very good and useful practice of SQL. The JOIN party is pretty hardcore so I definitely couldn't master it but got enough of an understanding where I could learn quickly with some on the job training.

An excellent course for learning analysis techniques using Spreadsheets and SQL. Recommended for all engineering and data science students as well as for those managing businesses and human resource.

While I liked the depth of the material better than some of the other modules, I didn't feel like I had enough opportunity to practice skills and I ended up depending heavily on outside reading. The week 4 module should have been broken into two modules, in my opinion, one for Excel/Sheets and one for SQL as there was too much material and not enough testing of proficiency.

I didn't feel the information was presented in a way I could easily follow like the previous videos. I would have to take extra time trying to figure out what I had missed only to see something had happened in a query that wasn't verbalized. It took me about twice as long to move through level 5. Maybe it was just more difficult content. I definitely struggled more here.

This course was not paced well. There was way too much information packed into week 4, which took me three+ weeks to complete. I wish the information was parsed out a little more. For most learners, these are the tech skills that they were looking to get, but it was hard to grasp and absorb the information. I got through it, but I'm not sure how much I will retain.

As others are pointing out, this course felt rushed. As the title of this cetfication is 'Data Analysis" you would expect the "analysis" part of this cert to be the biggest and most valuable resource, but it was not the case. I would have to refer other sources to learn SQL as a lot of the syntaxes of this languages were just explained in like 2 seconds.

I like that complex functions for SQL are introduced. I struggled with the instructor's pace even with pausing, and reducing the speed she still didn't explain in detail the syntax of functions. I also didn't like bringing back old SQL functions. I expected more difficult hands on practice only to get multiple choice questions for the challenges.

This course needs improvement as it doesn't go smoothly with courses given before. As a learner i was getting a problem on my week 2 and 3 studies because it suddenly goes from nowhere to an advanced level. So coursera can improve it by breaking down and giving sufficient time to make learners understand concepts well and build up a new skill.

I think that you may need to review some of the course content. For instance, in the practice "Hands-On Activity: Create temporary tables" the code refers to the variable 'bikeid' but the table reference is for 'bike_id'.

It's a small thing but it makes a difference when you're just trying to learn and don't want to be debugging course content.

There are a lot of instances where you are supposed to follow along on BigQuery. In my experience, nine out of ten of these scenarios end in technical errors. Whether these can be troubleshot endlessly for a result is beyond me but as of now, I feel very unsure of my knowledge of SQL based on these instances and will research more on my own.

Course 5 needs to reviewed since it's very dense with lots great tips and tricks but only offering too few examples. Also, there have been changes to the datasets in Big Query. BikeID is now Bike_ID. It would be helpful if someone could go through coursework to make sure it's updated. The program is promoted for 'new to the field'.

Finally a course that has a fair amount of handson activities though at a very basic level, these courses are mainly geared towards novices. The only advantage, to anyone already familiar with databases, is the introduction of structured methods/processes in datanalysis projects as well as exposure to language used in the sapce.

One of the sql queries don't seem to work in the bigquery sandbox, no matter what I do differerently. I first followed the instructions step by step, then copy pasted what the instructions were telling me to do... I just can't tell what I was doing wrong, or if I was doing anything wrong and it's flawed, so that was frustrating.

There are some incorrect examples for SQL, so when i tried to follow, it doesn't work which is quite annoying. Besides, a dataset for one of the hand-on activities doesn't exist in my bigquery public database, so i wasn't able to do the activity as instructed and end up guessing the answer. Please fix this problem.

I enjoy studying this course. However, the materials were circling around throughout the first until last week. Additionally, the instructor should speak slower during the Bigquery exercise demonstrations and examples. Some of the exercises in the videoes should be included in the readings for more clarification.

The course was very useful and more technical than the others. Ayanna was very good in explaining many difficult functions. However, I found the structure of the course a bit confusing, it kept jumping from one topic to another and, moreover, there were some discrepancies which interrupted the learning flow

Lots and Lots of Google Sheets and not that much analysis . If you wanted to use Microsoft Excel it would have taken you much more time and Googling to complete the assignments. I think it would just be more beneficial to us if the future courses were done in excel as more companies prefer it than Sheets.

I would rate this course either 4 or 5 stars if the audio quality were improved (the audio is too low) and if the examples provided were simpler and explained more thoroughly and understandably. I found it challenging to grasp complex concepts like nested queries because they were not explained clearly.

Pace is too fast and difficulty ramped up compared to previous courses. Some lessons were repetitive and seems disorganized and rushed compared to the first 4 courses. Not enough practice and reinforcement of new functions encountered since the activities are mainly copy-pasting complex queries.

There was some lack of clarity in the written activity and assignment instructions and the presenter isnt as natural as for the previous courses. Overall, the course is very helpful in advancing knowledge of data analytics generally, and specfically in problem solving, SQL and Google Sheets.

There are a lot of mistakes in the video, and the instructor's teaching method is very rushed or not explained clearly. Most of the time, I have to read and try to learn by myself. Also, the sound while teaching and comparing in each clip is not stable; sometimes it is too loud or too low.

Wasn't a fan of the instructor, barely any guidance in excel. I understand they want us to use Sheets, but the lack of guidance in excel made everything much more difficult for someone trying to learn the course through excel. The previous courses were better in that regard in my opinion.

The problem with this course is using BigQuery. Had a lesson refer to a dataset that wasn't available as a Public Dataset "Austin BikeShare". Using BigQuery is too cumbersome. Being able to type out SQL syntax in a small window to get results is a much user-friendly experience.

So far course 5 is the most confusing one. It is not for beginners; the instructor just jumps on to typing queries. I wish SQL queries were discussed further. A lot of data sets given in the exercises are nowhere to be found. I wish this course gets reviewed and revised by google.

The course had many repetitive concepts. Pivot tables and SQL sections were repetitive. The Questions were not well presented. 13 Questions!!! ...all of them linked to one scenarion with alot of paragraphs is a sure way to make a student lose his train of thought and comprehension

The beginning of this video was exciting. I had a lot to learn but i had issues with the video, some part of the video, i couldn't hear the instructor and the cut out was too much which made the video part unenjoyable. But from week 4, it was all great. learnt a lot.

This course is way too outdated. I did learn a lot at once, but all of the examples need updated and there needs to be more theory on the "Why". Too often I felt like I was just copying the instructor because they were not explaining anything while entering queries.
